Pet Surgical Services

APPOINTMENT

Your pet is safe with us.

No matter what type of surgery your pet needs, whether it is elective surgery, a spay or neuter surgery, or something more extensive, our veterinary team has got you covered at our animal hospital in Granbury. Pet surgery is a very important aspect of complete veterinary care and we place a strong emphasis on techniques, tools, and safety for each and every one of our patients.

What You Need to Know About Anesthesia

Anesthesia services are among the most important aspects of pet surgery to consider. At Acton Animal Hospital, our anesthesia protocols are designed with your pet’s safety in mind. Before your pet’s surgery, we require complete physical exams and pre-anesthetic bloodwork to ensure that your pet is healthy enough for anesthesia. We may adjust the amount of anesthesia used on your pet depending on our findings of your pet’s health, blood, and age. We may also recommend coagulation testing to determine blood clotting efficiency before surgery.

What Happens Before and After Surgery

On your pet’s surgery day, it’s important that your pet have an empty stomach. This means that they should fast for 8-10 hours before surgery. Water can be left down overnight but should be taken up the morning of surgery.

After surgery, pets are often sleepy and relaxed. This is normal! It’s important for your pet to relax as much as possible the day after surgery so they don’t cause any complications.

Additional details about your pet’s surgery will vary depending on your pet’s surgery type. We will give you information about stitches, pain management, and more to ensure that you are prepared for the specific needs your pet has while they are with us. If you have any questions about your pet’s care, please don’t hesitate to contact us today!
